Vision

Description

SegmentacionComputer vision and image processing have been two of the main research fields at ISIS group since it was created. Along its lifetime, ISIS group has contributed in different topics related to these fields such as foveal and multiresolution vision, stereo vision, hierarchical image representation, segmentation, tracking or recognition. In the last years, apart from keeping on the work in these areas, the thigh relation between this group and the Robotics group allowed to define a main objective for the Vision group in order to focus its contributions. This objective is the creation of a complete perceptual system for a social robot, based on active vision. Thus, higher level topics has been addressed by the vision group such as hybrid attentional mechanisms, pure vision-based human motion capture, and recognition and learning of social gestures.

The first steps towards the consecution of this perceptual system for a social robot involved Projects TIN2005-01359 and VISOR (EURON IST-507 728). These works continues with Projects AVISPA (P07-TIC-03106) and TIN2008-06196. It is also interesting to consider the links that the Vision group has established with different Universities and research centres through its existence. These links have increased the knowledge corpus of the ISIS group, and they have also increased its international renown. Collaborative research (Acciones Integradas) has been, and is currently being conducted, with the ISR (Coimbra, Portugal) and with the PRIP (Vienna, Austria). The Vision group maintains also tight links with the CVSSP (Surrey, United Kingdom), the ARICC (Singapore) and the ROBOLAB (Universidad de Extremadura, Spain), among others.

Research conducted by the Vision group is currently transferred to the students in postgraduate courses at University of Málaga. The group counts also with the required infrastructure to organize seminars, conferences or specific courses about computer vision.
